The North West Company Fur Post opened a new visitor center back in 2003. Designed to complement the surrounding environment, the visitor center features a Great Room, fireplace, and retail space. New exhibits explore how the fur trade shaped the region.
Step out of the visitor center into 1804. Stop at the Ojibwe encampment where you'll learn how the seasonal industries of the Ojibwe changed when Europeans arrived. Follow a guide through outdoor trails to a reconstructed Wintering Post for the North West Company. While there, meet a fur trade clerk who explains the system of barter that moved beaver fur from the hands of Indian hunters onto the heads of fashionable Europeans.
The North West Company Fur Post offers 1.5 miles of trails through the woods and along the Snake River. Picnic facilities are available.
